When Beth arrived at Summer Blast Camp, she was stepping into something new. Having recently moved to the area, she was eager to find her place. Beth was keen to build friendships, make positive local connections, and discover healthy activities she could enjoy in her new community. She wanted opportunities to try new things, grow in confidence, and feel like she belonged.
However, starting fresh in a new place can be challenging. Without established friendships or familiar faces, finding the right spaces to connect with others can take time. For Beth, the biggest barrier was not a lack of motivation, but simply the difficulty of finding the right opportunities and supportive environments where she could build friendships and explore new interests.
Like many young people navigating a transition, Beth needed a safe and welcoming community where she could feel accepted, try new things, and grow in confidence alongside positive role models and peers.
Through the support of sponsorship, Beth was able to attend Youth Encounter’s Summer Blast Camp and become part of a vibrant and encouraging community.
From the moment she arrived, the Youth Encounter team worked to create an environment where she felt supported and included. Beth was provided with a dirt bike and given guidance and encouragement from leaders who helped her build confidence and develop her riding skills. With many experienced riders at camp, staff intentionally supported her learning so she could experience success and not feel intimidated.
Camp life created many opportunities for connection. Shared activities, riding sessions, and relaxed moments between events helped young people naturally build friendships and feel part of the group. Alongside the adventure and fun, the camp also included evening sessions where participants explored faith, reflected on life, and learned more about Jesus through thoughtful discussion.
These conversations encouraged Beth and the other young people to consider their responsibility, their choices, and the potential they carry within them. With the support of leaders and peers, Beth was able to step into new experiences and embrace the opportunities in front of her.
By the end of the camp, Beth had made the most of every opportunity.
She arrived having never jumped a dirt bike before, yet by the end she was confidently flying high over the jumps and even giving the BMX ramp into the lake a go. She approached each challenge with determination and enthusiasm, wearing an ear to ear smile the entire time. Even when she experienced falls and knocks along the way, her positive attitude never faded.
Beth’s willingness to try new things and push past her comfort zone was inspiring. The experience helped her grow in confidence and develop new skills, while also building friendships and connections with others at camp.
Reflecting on the experience, Beth shared,
"This has been one of the best days of my life"
She also expressed how the deeper conversations at camp challenged and encouraged her, saying, “It helped with my confidence. The talk about traps really challenged me, and I'm going to work on my talents.”
For Beth, Summer Blast Camp became more than just a week of fun activities. It was a place where she built confidence, formed meaningful connections, and discovered new strengths within herself.
Having arrived looking for friendship and opportunity in a new community, Beth left camp smiling with belonging, connected with others, and confidently living life wide open.
