Story of Transformation

Before Steve became involved with Youth Encounter, he was a quiet and frustrated teenager, longing for change. He was unhappy with the direction his life was taking and knew he wanted something different, but he didn’t know how to make that change happen.

To address Steve's needs, Youth Encounter provided tailored 1-on-1 therapy sessions over an eight-week period. This programme aimed to help Steve gain a more secure sense of identity, whilst offering fun and engaging experiences. Through cognitive behavioural therapy, he learned how his beliefs about his own potential could reshape his thoughts, influence his emotions, and ultimately guide his actions. The therapy also gave Steve a powerful new perspective: he realised that whatever he focuses on, he moves toward. By focusing on the positive things he wants, he discovered how to move steadily toward achieving his goals.

Having completed the Dirt Bike Therapy program, Steve now has a fresh outlook on life. He’s gained control over his emotions and is moving toward a positive future. Eager to start working, he’s been proactive in his job search—creating a CV, securing character references, and showing real initiative. Motivated and determined, Steve is ready to face life’s challenges head-on. As reported by Steve at the beginning and end of his therapy journey, he has an increased self-worth and strengthened connection with self, more meaningful relationships with whānau, engaged in values-based learning, and developed social skills to foster healthy relationships.

We have loved working alongside Steve and are excited to see him continue releasing his incredible potential in the future. His journey with Youth Encounter has been inspiring, and we look forward to witnessing his continued success.
